From Tiepolo to Carrà: 23 masterpieces on display

Gallerie d’Italia - Piazza Scala in Milan will host R’accolte the traveling exhibition of the arts collections of Italian banking foundations. This is a unique opportunity to view artworks that are normally not on display for the large public. Fondazione Cariplo is the promoter of the exhibition that features also artworks owned by the FERRARAFLORENCEFORLI’, GORIZIALUCCAMACERATA and VENICE Foundations.

After being first on display in Bologna in 2012 in the exhibition called 'Il Barocco Emiliano' (Baroque in Emilia), R’accolte stops in Milan with the exhibition titled “Da Tiepolo a Carrà: i grandi temi della vita nelle collezioni delle Fondazioni (From Tiepolo to Carrà: the great life themes in the Foundations’ collections’). A unique exhibition, a fascinating, enthralling journey through three centuries of Italian art with paintings from the seventeenth, eighteenth and twentieth centuries.  Universal themes such as life and death, family, love, maternity and work are addressed in a variety of styles in the various paintings by authors who at times are much different one from the other. These works of art help people reflect on these themes as they stand before paintings that embody an inspiration born from a sentiment.

“This exhibition is only a step in a journey to return valuable artworks to the public enjoyment. An opportunity for Foundations to collaborate in an action grounded in their common commitment to conservation and promotion of public enjoyment of the notable artworks in their collections of which the Foundations are dutiful guardians” – explains Giuseppe Guzzetti, Fondazione Cariplo President. “Art gives us the chance to reflect on the themes of our daily lives, on values and sentiments. It is a powerful force. With the themes they represent the masterpieces on display are in an ideal dialogue with the Foundation’s action, in particular they connect with its strong social commitment to the wellbeing of the communities it serves, especially youths and the most vulnerable population groups in our society.”

“This exhibition is intended to present the variety and richness of a universe of collections so far unknown to the large public - the collections of Italian banking foundations - through a series of extraordinary paintings, some of which can be rightfully called masterpieces. These collections were so far unknown to the large public because although often included in temporary exhibitions they were never displayed all together” - commented Fernando Mazzocca, scientific curator.

The exhibition is not confined to the spaces of Gallerie d’Italia, it can be enjoyed also in a dedicated section of the Fondazione Cariplo’s revamped Artgate website where visitors can also find plenty of relevant information. Artgate is the online gallery displaying the over 900 artworks of considerable historic and artistic value, including paintings, sculptures and furnishings, that make up Fondazione Cariplo’s art collection. Artgate is the virtual space where the beauty of these artworks dated from the first century AD to the late twentieth century is unveiled.

Fondazione Cariplo also announces it entered into a partnership with the Google Cultural Institute to publicly show the artworks in its collection and have their value appreciated worldwide through the opportunities provided by the Internet. On Google Art Project visitors will find some 120 artworks from the Collection and two tours, one focused on the masterpieces in the collection, the other on Renaissance paintings. And now also the ‘From Tiepolo to Carrà’ exhibition.
